If you are one of those parents searching on this topic, I understand what you are going through! Don't worry you are not alone..
My child had a slight dry spot on the scalp that was itchy,it seemed fine after a hair wash, but became worse and was in couple more areas of the scalp and the itch was really bad.
Lesson learnt!
Frequent washing will make the scalp dry and send message to the body to produce oil to balance the dryness, which in turn makes your scalp become oily in a day or 2 after the wash and slowly causes dandruff or flakes. This sounded right the opposite of what I've believed all my life. Fact it is!
Remedy that worked for us!
Cold pressed castor oil came to the rescue, it has anti-inflammatory properties and helps with many skin issues.Do yourself a favor andoand research on that!
Here we go...
Use a cotton ball , squeeze in a drop of oil onto the ball and pat it on the scalp area where the dry patches are. You will have to leave the oil on like that, so do not over do, you do not need oil on your hair just on the scalp. Castor oil has a strong unpleasant smell, so keep it low, just right enough to moisturize the dry patch. Couple drops would be enough to pat the whole scalp area of a toddler.
Do this every day , shower hair with mild wash on the 3rd or 4th day. I use dove head-to-toe baby wash.
Check for dry patches once hair and scalp are dry after wash. Continue the cotton-oil-pat routine.
3 or 4 days later, warm 3 talespoon of sesame oil( I use the Indian sesame oil) , warm slightly, check for temperature to avoid burns. Squeeze 2 teaspoon fresh lime juice and mix well. Use cotton ball and generously apply this on to the entire scalp. Leave and wash hair after 15-20 mins.
It takes about 2-3 weeks for the scalp to be clear of all the patches.Be patient. All said and done, consult with your doctor for any other underlying condition.
Foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids will help too 🙂
